Public Ministry Financial-Accounting System

The Public Ministry of Honduras was managing its accounting and financial transactions on an outdated version of a unix-based system called MUNIS.  Slowly, the system was becoming increasingly unstable and soon rendered unmanageable by the institution.  Local technical support was extremely limited, software ran on an old server that did not work with a relational database, and the Ministry had failed to set aside a budget for updates and support.  In other words, the existing version was no longer supported and upgrading the system meant installing a brand new system.

Alexius supported the Ministry in replacing their financial-accounting system with a more user-friendly relational database and best practice-based application.  This project was identified as a critical area that required strengthening according the ICT Strategy Plan developed collaboratively with the Public Ministry.  During this process, functional requirements were drafted, Terms of Reference were sent to local providers to submit a proposal, proposals were evaluated, and contract awarded.  Today, the Ministry has completely removed the MUNIS application from their back office and has a more stable and manageable financial-accounting system, enabling the institution to keep a better control on its limited budget and make more informed decisions.
