PRONACOM, the national competitiveness program in Guatemala and part of a World Bank initiative, and the Guatemalan ICT Cluster have promoted a sector diagnostic that will define present gaps in its competitiveness in both local and international markets. Specifically the diagnostic looks at elements of financing, human capital development, and global market opportunties where Guatemala's ICT Cluster participants may effectively compete. The project is being undertaken during the third quarter of 2008.
The ICT Cluster is composed of four sub-sectors:
- Software and Web Content and Applications, ranging from systems integration to customized application development
- Hardware, namely systems integration, assembly, sales and support
- Contact Centers, which include traditional call centers to more sophisticated services such as helpdesk support
- Visual Arts, at all production levels relating to creating movie and video media
