The US Department of Labor awarded a grant to Alexius International for its proposal to strengthen employer compliance of social security payments to the Social Security Institute (ISSS) of El Salvador. Presently many employers in El Salvador do not comply with current labor regulation which stipulates they must pay 10.5% of employees wages as a contribution to the ISSS. This payment ensures that all workers have access to healthcare services as well as provides coverage for both employee and employer for any work related injury that may occur. When employers do not report employees to the ISSS, workers are left without health coverage or disability coverage. Alexius will be implementing this project during 2009-2010, beginning with initial diagnostic and planning activities during the last quarter of 2008.
