David Mendoza, Managing Director

David founded Alexius International as an ICT International Development firm in 2000.  Since then, the business has expanded to encompass a number of other business units and focuses.  Providing technology for emerging markets requires a perspective that is up to date and continuously innovating.  David’s ability to conceptualize these innovations and lead a diverse team of consultants  allow Alexius to thrive and continue to grow.  Underlying all of his work, David’s desire to have a positive impact on personal and organizational levels drives the collaborative approach taken at Alexius, where the focus goes beyond providing a service but rather improving the quality of life with those services. 

Carlos Hip, Technology Services Division Chief

Carlos has been with Alexius International for nearly four years.  His experience as an industrial engineer provides him with a strong set of operations and process based lenses through which he sees the world.  Carlos is constantly seeking alternatives to improve operation systems, making them organizationally, technologically and financially more sound.  To do this, he determines the most effective and efficient way for a business to work, considering who the users will be and best business practices.  By emphasizing the complementary relationship between ICTs and operational changes, Carlos develops effective operation systems that involve making improvements to both a business’ organization  and their systems technology.

Ben Sywulka, Media Production Division Chief

Ben came to Alexius in 2005 to work on the Open Source project PAK-IT and stayed on to become a country manager and develop Alexius’ Media Production business unit.  He is passionate about media production and its direct affect on the way cultures participate and interact with one another.  By enabling a rural community to document and preserve their way of life, Ben sees media production as a means of empowerment among people who have previously had no access to even the simplest technologies.  His other interest is design, which he uses to complement his knowledge of both media and technology.

Darrell Owen, Thought Leader

Darrell Owen provides the inspiration and leadership for much of the research and project-based work that is done at Alexius International.  He has over forty years of experience in managing information and communications technologies (ICTs) by providing innovative and consistent leadership while introducing current technologies and leveraging them to implement change.  Darrell’s extensive knowledge of both ICTs and development work place him at the crossroads between those two disciplines.  His focus on the application of technology ensures that projects achieve or go beyond their targeted improvements.
